One hundred years ago, Bubsie, a 1923 Citroën 5CV, became the first car to circumnavigate Australia.
Drivers and dreamers Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies embarked on the journey as missionaries in 1925, travelling along iconic coastlines and through the breathtaking outback.
This year, run by donor-funded ministry The Incredible Journey, the event, called Right Around Australia, will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Mr Westwood and Mr Davies’ feat.
In a similar 1923 Citroën 5CV, the crew will be retracing the steps of the original Bubsie, which is now displayed in the National Museum in Canberra.
But, this isn’t just any road trip.
Without the use of modern technology, it will be a journey back in time, reflecting an era where commuters navigated with the stars, guided by road signs, compasses, tattered maps, and sheer determination.
This year’s trip began on February 21 in Cooranbong, NSW, and after a few stops along the way, the drivers will visit Broadford on April 14.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church Broadford welcomes all visitors to Gavin Hall on High St in Broadford from 11.45am, where lunch will be provided around an hour later, to meet the crew and see Bubsie’s replica.
From Broadford, the drivers will be travelling to Macedon on their way around the country.
SDA Broadford is requesting that those interested in attending to RSVP by April 4 to Lyn Gunter on 0417 535 566 or blgunters@outlook.com
