Group Captain Bowles died in uniform, attending to a fire in Moama on December 12, after suffering a medical episode.
He was 60 years old and dedicated much of his life to the service of the community as a firefighter.
As a tribute to the RFS, and in Group Captain Bowles’ honour, the Bowles family invites people to raise funds for the NSW Rural Fire Service.

He was Group Captain of the Womboota Rural Fire Brigade.
He was a highly regarded mentor to many members and his leadership skills and unwavering commitment earned him numerous accolades throughout his career.
Earlier this year, Group Captain Bowles received a Commissioner's Commendation for Service in recognition of his work in western NSW throughout the flood events of 2022.

“Group Captain Bowles was an exemplary member of not just the RFS, but of the community he served,” the RFS said.
“While his loss will be felt deeply by his family, brigade, district and the wider RFS family, his legacy of leadership, commitment and great capability will continue to inspire those who carry on his work.”
