Founded in the Koondrook-Barham district in 2007, the Lions Australia Junior Public Speaking Competition was taken on by students in years 3-6.
The aim is to ensure children are given the opportunity to develop their public speaking abilities.
They are to write and prepare their own speeches, which are then delivered in front of an audience of their peers, teachers and some invited guests.
The Year 3 and 4 students were asked to prepare a three minute speech around the topic of ‘If you could talk to your favourite fairytale character or a character from your favourite book, who would it be, why are they your favourite character and what would you ask them?’.
The older students were asked to deliver a four minute speech.
The topic question was ‘Who is the most influential person in your life? Interview this person and then tell us about them. Who are they, what do they do and how have they influenced you?’.
Jewel was the top speaker in the Year 3/4 age group, with Melissa the runner-up.
David was first in the Year 5/6 age group, and Gabrielle was runner-up.
Surnames have not been provided due to school policy.
