Mr Birrell has pledged $500,000 to improve the facilities of the Seymour sporting hotspot.
“If we’re elected, a Dutton-Littleproud Government will contribute $500,000 towards upgraded lighting and draining works for (the back) oval on King’s Park,” Mr Birrell said.
“Seymour Football Club and the Seymour Junior Club have a great culture, and this is a place where families feel really comfortable bringing their kids to come and participate.”
Mithcell Shire Mayor John Dougall said council was set to contribute $150,000 towards the project, and this committed funding was a welcome aid.
“Mitchell Shire absolutely welcomed this commitment,” Cr Dougall said.
“This project actually means something to this community.
“We have to demonstrate that by putting in council money, and we’re happy to do that.”
Mr Birrell announced the funding on Tuesday, April 8 at the back oval on Kings Park, surrounded by members of the Seymour Lions Junior Football Club.
“I’m very passionate about kids’ sport, having been a kid who played sport, sometimes well, sometimes not so well,” Mr Birrell said.
“It’s just amazing how good it makes you feel being active and being our there.”
This is Mr Birrell’s second funding commitment to Seymour, if a coalition government is elected, with the first being $900,000 pledged to the Seymour RSL sub branch.
