Known for her tales set against Australia’s 19th-century backdrop, Darry will discuss her latest novel The Night on the Darling River at the Shepparton Library on Friday, January 31, at 2.30pm.
Set in Echuca in 1894, The Night on the Darling River weaves a story of tension, survival and second chances. Against the backdrop of the infamous shearers’ strike, the main character, Tess Hawthorn, finds herself in a perilous situation when she accidentally boards the wrong paddle steamer.
Having grown up in Swan Hill, Darry was inspired by the river’s history, and it continues to be a recurring setting in her novels. Her previous titles, such as Daughter of the Murray and The Good Woman of Renmark, have earned her a dedicated readership who enjoy her blend of adventure and romance framed by real historical events.
This event provides a chance to hear Darry discuss her inspirations and writing process, while also offering insight into historical fiction and the stories behind her novels.
