Benalla Sustainable Future Group members David Blore and Mike Hillenaar recently moved its collecting point for recyclable items into the foyer of the Senior Citizens’ Centre on Fawkner Dve.
Mr Blore said the project to relocate its “Wastewise filing cabinet” was undertaken in co-operation with Benalla Rural City Council.
“It is for all residents, and aims to reduce our landfill and work towards a circular economy,” he said.
“The drawers are labelled and will accept plastic bread tags (the cardboard ones go in your own green bin), metal ring pulls, disposable razors, dental products, old pens or biros, spray/pump bottle inserts and make-up containers.
“Wastewise no longer collects plastic bottle lids, so we encourage everyone to squash the bottle and squeeze the lid into it, so it is recycled and doesn’t end up in landfill.
“Chemist Warehouse and Marsha Watson Pharmacy (for customers only) take used medication combination plastic and metal blister packs for recycling.
“Please put all-metal blister packs in your own yellow recycling bin.”
