What would World Scout Jamboree look like if hosted in Benalla? The 8.8km2 site would cover its entire urban area.
Benalla Scout Group Leader Jenny Wapling said luckily South Korea has the space to create a small city where attendees take part in amazing activities and form friendships with scouts from around the world.
“Alex has a service role at the Jamboree and will be assisting the 43,000 young people attending the many and varied events,” Ms Wapling said.
“Benalla Scout Group members wish Alex a safe journey and look forward to his stories upon his return.”
Benalla Scout Clare Cooke has recently returned from two weeks in Switzerland where she met amazing young people from around the world.
Clare was one of the Australian Contingent who travelled to Kandersteg International Scout Camp, in the Swiss Alps, to celebrate the Centenary of the first International Scout Centre.
It was a once in a lifetime Jamboree bringing together Scouts and Guides from many countries and regions.
“Kandersteg International Scout Centre has shown the world what is possible when young people live and work together without borders,” Ms Wapling said.
“Participants chose between a wide range of activities, including hiking in the Alps, local cultural experiences, social cafés, educational workshops and much, much more.
“All of this made for the most memorable event at the site where Baden Powell started his dream.
“All the activities aimed to be fun, safe and educational for everyone, making sure that there was a diverse and inclusive programme on offer.
“Clare thoroughly enjoyed her two weeks of international travel and is looking forward to her next challenge on her Scouting Journey.”
Clare said she would like to thank the Benalla Community for supporting her fundraising efforts last year.
“You have made a girl’s dreams come true,” she said.
