And what says country racing more than a farmers day out.
Now in its third year, the Farmers Day Out Race Day is set to pull crowds for a day of summer racing, with former AFL player and current commentator Brian Taylor leading the charge as host of the marquee, alongside premiership Hawthorn footballer Campbell Brown.
The event on Sunday, January 20, will also have a twist on conventional race days, with sponsors vehicles and machinery on display trackside.
Benalla Racing Club general manager Cameron Symes said the race day concept continued to go from strength to strength each year.
‘‘It is a way of being able to link businesses to clients as well as providing a social day out at the races,’’ Symes said.
‘‘It works well and we get great support from local businesses.
‘‘It’s going from strength to strength.’’
Local trainers Wayne Nichols and Peter Burgun could be set to throw their hats in the ring, with seven races scheduled for the day.
Kids are also set to be winners on the day, with a variety of activities organised to keep youngsters amused for the school holidays.
The Kids Day Out boasts the Wild Action Zoo, giant water slide and jumping castle, with two for one entry on the day.
‘‘It’s a cheap day out for families to have an afternoon of fun,’’ Symes said.
Gates will open at 12pm with the first horses set to bolt out of the gates at 1pm.
