The Benalla Street Art Tour, which was launched on Monday, October 31, features six sites and takes the listener on a deep-dive into the heart of Benalla, uncovering hidden gems along the way.
The tour recognises and celebrates the region’s history and people through a series of spectacular murals created by leading international and local artists.
Providing an insight into the true spirit of the area, the tour features the famous Burmese Girl which has been ranked eighth in the world for street art.
Other highlights of the tour include Squirrel Glider by Jimmy Dvate, Anton Pulvirenti’s Serafina, Down the Rabbit Hole by Robyn Grove, Sticks and Stones by Tim Bowtell and Sirum’s epic Ned Kelly mural.
Benalla Rural City Mayor Bernie Hearn said the new audio tour was a great way for visitors and locals alike to discover more about Benalla’s street art.
“We are very excited to be able to preserve and share our local stories in this way and it has been an uplifting process being able to showcase Benalla’s stunning street art in this podcast,” Cr Hearn said.
“We have so many interesting tales that are not easily available to visitors, but an app like this is a great way to reach people and tell the town’s stories.”
The Benalla Street Art Tour is now available on the Storytowns app, which can be downloaded from your device’s app store.
This project was made possible by the Federal Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
