On Friday, October 11, Benalla Bowls Club celebrated World Sight Day, fundraising for the Fred Hollows Foundation.
A club spokesperson said members and visitors participated in fun activities by purchasing ‘crazy novelty glasses’ and enjoyed a game of pin the tail on the donkey.
“We also received generous cash donations throughout the night,” the spokesperson said.
World Sight Day, occurring on the second Thursday in October, raises global awareness about blindness and vision impairment.
It serves as a vital opportunity to highlight the importance of protecting our eyes and vision, raise awareness of vision impairment and blindness, and promote eye and vision care.
The Fred Hollows Foundation is a non-profit aid organisation founded in 1992 by eye surgeon Fred Hollows.
The foundation focuses on treating and preventing blindness and other vision-related issues in communities across Australia, South-East Asia, East Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
“All proceeds from our evening will be donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation,” the spokesperson said.
“We are proud to announce that the Benalla Bowls Club donated the proceeds of the raffle conducted that night, and a total of $1000 has been given to this very worthy cause.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in making this event a success.”
