Her diverse works cover landscapes, seascapes, animals, birds, still life and portraits.
She especially enjoys creating action paintings with horses, such as cutting action and rodeo scenes.
This passion led to her current exhibition, ‘A Cut Above’, which will be on display at AGO from October 26 to November 6.
“I’ve had some long service leave for the past three months, which has given me an opportunity to work on some new pieces,” Sue said.
“I have named this exhibition ‘A Cut Above’, which is the title of my feature piece.
“It is of a cutting horse at work with the tassels on the rider’s chaps flying in all directions.”
The exhibition has come about due to her involvement with AGO.
“I was approached a few years ago to be a resident artist,” she said.
“Each resident artist has one exhibition each year, and then we have guest artists who exhibit throughout the year.
“There are two galleries, so the resident artists have a combined exhibition in the back gallery.
“Then there is the front gallery, where each resident artist gets a solo exhibition when there are no visiting artists.”
Sue said her inspiration came from different places.
“Usually it’s just something that triggers my interest, whether it’s the colours or the tones, pattern of lights,” she said.
“Sometimes you have to make up the background if you don’t like it.
“I enjoy having that artistic licence. I guess problem-solving is what I really like once I start working on something.
‘A Cut Above’ will be on display at the Art Gallery on Ovens from October 26 to November 6. Entry is free.
The gallery is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
