The annual awards provide a chance to acknowledge local citizens, groups and events for their contribution to the area.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae encouraged everyone to use the opportunity to publicly recognise those in the community who “go that extra mile to achieve great things”.
“We’ve been through some tough times of late, with lots of people really going above and beyond to support and assist others,” Cr McRae said.
“Let’s use the awards to honour the achievements of these community champions and publicly say thanks for all they do”.
Each town within Murrumbidgee Council’s area has various award categories as part of its Australia Day awards.
These include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Sporting Team of the Year, Event/Group of the Year, Environmental Citizen of the Year and the Cultural Award.

Nominations for the 2023 awards close December 2 for the Jerilderie categories and January 6, 2023 for the Coleambally and Darlington Point ones.
The announcement of category winners will be made on Australia Day, with events planned for each town.
“We recently applied for funding through the Australia Day Council to host the events,” Cr McRae said.
“Funding has also been received from the Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program to support the fireworks and other activities at the Jerilderie event”.
