Deniliquin High School’s netball team achieved its best-ever result in the NSW Combined High Schools Netball Championships, finishing fifth in the state. Having won the Riverina tournament in Wagga, undefeated across seven games, the team qualified for the state competition. There they finished in the top four of their pool, going on to compete as part of the final top eight. Georgia Sandford (pictured, right, working with a model) shared her journey as a rural-based businesswoman and fashion designer, proving you don’t have to be based in cities to be a success. She brought her Wisteria and Willow brand back to Denilqiuin and has built a strong and successful brand. Her customers include fashion influencer Tayla Broad, and Georgia had been shortlisted in the Power Retail Awards.
Small-scale meat producers would soon have access to the brand-new multi-species abattoir at Barham, with rectification works near completion. The multi-million dollar co-operative-owned investment will ensure that local growers have access to timely, humane slaughter of their animals. Final training for two kill floor staff was being completed, with the aim of a mid-September start. The district’s top junior performers were in attendance for the Picola League vote count in Moama, with Blighty, Deni Rovers and Mathoura clubs all represented. There were six top three finishes in total across all clubs, for both football and netball, with Blighty under-13s netballer Lily Petersen (pictured) the only local to win a best and fairest after an amazing season.
The Deniliquin Business Chamber was announced as one of two finalists in the running for the Riverina Murray region’s Local Chamber of the Year award. The chamber was to go up against Albury Business Connect at the Riverina Murray Business Awards in Junee. Local businesses would also be represented in 12 other award categories, most after winning their place after initially winning in select categories at the Deniliquin Business Chamber’s Business Excellence Awards - like the Deni ute Muster team, pictured with Pastoral Times general manager Leesa Muir (far left).
