In response to a call of need, GV Wellbeing has offered to host free one-on-one 30-minute Zoom or phone sessions where callers can ask any questions they might have about supporting their child or teen.
When GV Wellbeing was first established, the intention was for it to provide a mental health service that was accessible within the community.
“Part of our journey this year at GV Wellbeing is to create more widely available opportunities for connection and to start more conversations with our community,” mental health social worker Celeste Douglas said.
“We speak to a lot of people who feel confused about the process of accessing mental health support and don’t know where to start that journey, or parents who aren’t sure what their young person needs and how to start the conversation.”
The ongoing online consultations will provide a dedicated and scheduled time put aside just for parents or carers to be able to focus on any and all questions they might have.
“This is our second free-to-the-community program to launch for 2025, and we are keen to continue building on these offerings,” Ms Douglas said.
GV Wellbeing is set on providing the necessary resources to help parents and carers feel empowered to support their young person.
The team is available to chat about:
- Navigating the mental health system.
- Pathways to access mental health care for a young person.
- Getting support for yourself.
- Understanding mental health symptoms in your young person.
- Starting conversations with young people about accessing support.
- Tips for supporting your young person’s mental wellbeing.
And anything else you might want answered.
“Sometimes just having a conversation with someone who understands is the best starting point to feeling more empowered and in control,“ Ms Douglas said.
“Whether you have questions about navigating mental health care, need a space to talk about what’s going on for your young person and where to start, or just want an opportunity to better understand your young person’s mental health — we are here to talk it through.”
