Both were black armbands as a mark of respect for the brothers and their cousin Dusty Daly, who perished in a plane crash in Gippsland on November 23 last year.
Both Luke and Benny were budding district sportsmen from Tongala and were held in high regard.
Harley (West Coast) and Nic’s (Gold Coast) gesture to honour them on a national stage was widely praised.
Quite a noise
Two loud explosions in Kyabram last Friday evening have ignited a guessing game.
Where were they ignited and what were they?
It seems most people in Kyabram thought they were close to where they lived but nobody seems to have been able to pinpoint where.
One suggestion was that they may have emanated from the Fosterville Gold Mine near Bendigo but most who heard them said it was a lot closer than that.
Little drizzle
Yes, we have had more rain.
But hardly enough to get excited about.
Sunday’s cool change included 3.4mm of rain in Kyabram after 12 successive days of temperatures over 30°C, including 39.5°C last Saturday.
But there were some Kyabramites who wished the rain had stayed away for another day.
Kyabram Cricket Club players’ bid to make Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield grand final in a semi-final against Nagambie was washed out, which meant the highest-ranked team at the end of the home-and-away season contesting the final was declared the winner.
In this case it was Nagambie.
Recouping unpaid rates

Sale proceeds after rates are recovered will be returned to the property owners.
Opera success
The use of Rochester’s Graincorp silos as a backdrop for an evening of opera on March 8 was a resounding success.
Over 500 turned out for the open-air performance, which featured well-known opera singers including Adam Miller, Eleanor Blythman, Michael Lapina, Alex Lapina, Mikey Lapina and Karen Van Spall, who sang a range of ensemble duet and solo pieces.
Push for new station
A campaign for a new police station at Mathoura is gaining momentum.
The bid reached the attention of NSW Police and Counter-Terrorism Minister Yasmin Catley during her recent visit to the region to launch the construction of a new police station at Moama.
And while mentioning new police stations, the new Benalla police station was officially opened on March 11.
Micro abattoir
Barham’s Micro Abattoir has gained approval to process red meat.
The facility opened late last year after securing approval to process only poultry.
Murray River Council was awarded $2.2 million of state and federal funding on behalf of the co-operative for the establishment of the micro abattoir.
Medical windfall
Jerilderie is to get a $5 million new medical centre.
Murrumbidgee Council has agreed to adopt a voluntary planning agreement with the proponents of the Yanco Delta Wind Farm.
Square dinkum
G’day.
I said to my wife, ‘‘For the last 45 years all you’ve done is find mistakes in everything I say.’’
‘‘Forty-six years,’’ was her reply.
Hooroo!
