The Cobram and District War Memorial will be the centre point for the main service within the region on Anzac Day.
On Tuesday, April 25, the traditional Dawn Service begins at 5.55am with Cobram Barooga RSL sub-branch president Barry Clarke requesting attendees to arrive 15 minutes earlier.
After the Dawn Service, the Civic Centre will host a Gunfire Breakfast courtesy of the Barooga Sports Club. A gold coin donation comes with attending the breakfast.
At 9.30am the traditional Anzac Day march will take place starting at adjacent to Federation Park on Punt Rd before winding down to the Cobram and District War Memorial for the 10am service.
Like the Dawn Service attendees and participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes earlier and after service refreshments will be served at the Civic Centre afterwards.
A smaller ceremony will be held at Barooga Sporties in NSW at 12.30pm.
Mr Clarke said Anzac Day was a time to reflect on the actions of service personnel past and present.
“(It means) remembering the sacrifice that the defence forces have made and the people who have made the supreme sacrifice, and those who have returned injured both in mind and body,” he said.
Moira Shire Council administrator John Tanner has encouraged all residents to attend a service in Cobram or elsewhere in the shire.
“Since the landing of our troops on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25 April 1915 our soldiers quickly became known as ANZACS, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day,” he said
“We must never forget them and all those who have served in all the wars and conflicts in which Australia has been involved and we must take time on Anzac Day to reflect on this and on those who gave their life on behalf of the nation.”
