A two-week window for applications opened on Friday, February 28 and will run until Sunday, March 16.
Acting captain Anthony Brown said being on on-call firefighter is another way for people to serve their community while being part of a team, learn valuable skills, and meet new people.
“I’ve been in Fire and Rescue for 16 years. I actually started up north, so it is a job where you can transfer from station to station,” he said.
“(There’s) training exercises and a skills maintenance weekend that we have in Deniliquin ... when you go and do your Phase training you meet new friends and fellow mates.
“You do end up with a big network of people, right through to the commissioner.”

On-call firefighters are a diverse and skilled group of people who balance other work, study and family commitments, per the FRNSW site.
Firefighters respond to emergencies, undertake all manner of rescues, deal with hazardous material incidents, and engage communities to increase fire safety.
Over the last financial year at the Moama station, there were 66 call-outs to incidents, which included fires and explosions, rescues, HAZMAT events, and false alarms.
The position is paid, including the training opportunities, and has leave entitlements.
On-call firefighter at FRNSW Finley station and recruitment project officer Hannah Ham said the role itself is worthwhile without the perks.

“It’s just an exciting job and something to be really proud of,” she said.
“It’s very rewarding, and the bonus is that you get paid.”
The station is calling for fit and healthy applicants who are community minded, are open to new challenges and exciting experiences, and live close by.
An information night and barbecue will be held at the station on Wednesday, March 12 from 6pm, where potential recruits can tour the site and learn more about applying.
Recruitment project officers will also be handing out information around town on the week starting Monday, March 3.
