Held annually since 1973, the awards recognise theatrical excellence in junior and senior productions across the Goulburn Valley and beyond.
Georgy Awards vice-president Trish Deakin said because of the cancellation of last year's awards and reduced numbers of productions caused by COVID-19 restrictions, this year's awards would cover the two years of 2020-21.
Ms Deakin said the past two years had been a roller coaster of disappointment and hope for many theatre groups and schools across the awards map.
“So many schools and theatre groups were ready to present their shows, only to see them cancelled at the last minute,” Ms Deakin said.
“The resilience shown by everyone involved in theatre has been amazing. Now we are all excited to get back in front of a live audience. We just want to draw a line and move forward.”
She said the awards represented theatre groups and schools from a large area of northern Victoria from Mansfield to Albury-Wodonga and from Broadford, Wallan, Shepparton, and Numurkah to Echuca-Moama.
She said two four-member teams of judges for junior and senior productions had managed to travel to all 17 productions, adhering to COVID-safe rules.
Shepparton productions nominated include Notre Dame Secondary College's shows The Actor's Nightmare and Oh Look a Kitten!, and Shepparton Theatre Arts Group's production of Encores at Chapel on Maude in March 2021.
Ms Deakin said the Georgy Awards committee was considering options for the presentation of the 2021 awards and would update audiences as soon as a date, location and format was decided.
