Hawkins was the guest speaker for the Berrigan Football Club Patrons and Graziers Dinner on Saturday.
With 350 AFL/VFL games under his belt between 1978 to 1995, Hawkins had many memorable moments to call on in entertaining those present.
He recalled his debut game where, at just 17, Hawkins had been selected to line up with his childhood favourite team in North Melbourne.
He highlighted how “surreal” it was to be lined up against his idols and heroes.
His life after playing also rated a mention, specifically his appearances on The Footy Show in the mid to late 1990s.
Hawkins said it was one of the best things he has ever done post football.
At least 80 people piled into the local clubrooms to listen to Hawkins speak, and to enjoy the food and drink.
All that attended were pleasantly surprised with how well Hawkins spoke, being able to keep things funny and light while also covering deeper topics such as mental health in the footballing environment.
