A $2.2 million upgrade to Tatura’s major stormwater infrastructure

Tatura is on the brink of a major transformation in flood protection thanks to a significant upgrade to its stormwater infrastructure.

During its December meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council awarded a local contractor the Margaret St Stormwater Pump Station upgrade contract, valued at $2,218,971.70.

This pump station serves as Tatura’s lifeline for stormwater management, addressing nearly 90 per cent of the township’s needs.

The much-needed upgrade comes in response to electrical non-compliance and failures within the existing system.

Once completed, the project is expected to enhance reliability and functionality while increasing flow capacity.

Key features will include a modern electrical switch room, new pumps and upstream gross pollutant traps to minimise debris entering the stormwater system.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy said council was pleased to see this project commence, noting its positive impact on community safety and resilience.

“This upgrade to the Margaret St Pump Station is a major step forward in protecting Tatura’s homes and businesses from the impacts of flooding while also future-proofing essential infrastructure for generations to come,” he said.

Construction is expected to begin shortly, utilising a design and construct model to ensure efficiency throughout the process.
