The 83-year-old and 93-year-old developed a beautiful later-in-life friendship after moving to Mercy Place Shepparton in their retirement.
This International Friendship Day, falling on July 30 every year, the pair is looking forward to chewing the fat over a cappuccino at Shepparton Parklake.
“Friendship Day is very important, it’s a big thing that we celebrate in our community here,” Ms Kenna said.
The pair met when Ms Kenna arrived at Mercy Place at the beginning of the year.
“Mary came to sit at our table,” Ms Kenny said.
“We both like the same things, we like to have a glass of Moscato at happy hour, and we have similar interests.”
The pair immediately bonded over a shared faith and love of poetry, and now regularly attend the chapel together
Of course, though, their instant spark also came with the uncanny similarity in their names, and they count it as a blessing that they found their way to each other later in life.
“We were very surprised to have met,” Ms Kenny said.
“Now people at Mercy Place get mixed up with our names.”
It's been a great source of laughter and confusion, but their friendship is also testament to the truth no matter what stage of life you're in, there are always new bonds to be formed.
Hopefully for several years to come, the two Marys will still be sitting at Mercy Place together, sipping on a glass of Moscato and sharing music they've loved throughout their lives.
