When the recent COVID-19 lockdown descended on Victoria, Mr Fatelawi was able to continue operating in a takeaway-only capacity.
But interacting with his customers, Mr Fatelawi began to notice the drastic impact the fourth shutdown was having on the community.
“We've had a few people come in and say they hadn't been paid, or they lost their job, or they had nothing to eat,” he said.
In response, Mr Fatelawi has been paying it forward with free snacks and kebabs, and has offered five struggling customers a pickup deal to tide them through tough times.
“We have a history of helping people,” Mr Fatelawi said.
“In December, we made a post online for people struggling with COVID-19 and did the same thing over Easter.
“Throughout COVID-19, we've had people struggling, or homeless people come in and get a side of chips or a kebab, we do what we can to help out.”
The pizza deal giveaway, posted to Pizza Place's social media accounts on Friday, June 4, offered two free pizzas, garlic breads and a drink for five community members in need.
Mr Fatelawi urged people to comment or tag their friends if they were going through tough times.
“Some people are embarrassed, and come in through the back door and contact us privately,” he said.
“I feel sorry for these people and want to do something to help them.”
Mr Fatelawi said the giveaway was one way to lend a hand as a local business who could afford to give the community a boost.
“It's been good for us,” he said.
“It's been quieter, but we're one of the lucky ones who've been able to keep delivering and have a good social media platform and reputation.”
