Kyabram P-12 College’s Fischer Campus has been allocated $225,000 for high-priority maintenance tasks to address roof plumbing and structural issues.
Tongala Primary School has been allocated $40,000, with $15,000 to go towards high-priority maintenance tasks including asphalt replacement, ceiling repair, external floor repainting, external floor revarnishing, external revarnishing, fascia repainting, lighting repair, shade structure repair, wall cladding repair and wall revarnishing.
The remaining $25,000 will be used to address high-priority roof plumbing issues.
Kyabram P-12 College principal Paul Tozer said every cent of the funding would be used to the betterment of the school and its students.
“As a large P-12 College, we are always keeping an eye on our facilities in order to keep them in a condition that makes them a great place to learn. We are funded to do this, but there is often a priorities list so that we can manage our budget effectively. This additional funding allows us to get straight on to some of our bigger jobs before they start to become a problem for us,” he said.
“As we have recently been allocated $7.5 million for building and upgrades, we will begin to go through a process of where the maintenance funding will best be utilized, as some of the areas that need attention are likely to be soon demolished to make way for new buildings. Once the most appropriate areas have been identified, the funding allows us to get straight into the repair and upgrade work, unless the work is likely to cause significant disruption to student learning such as for a new roof. In this case, we will hold proceedings off until the next term break.
“It is an exciting time for Kyabram P-12 College, with a number of funding sources in the pipeline to complement the $7.5 million for building and upgrades. We are pleased to be able to offer our students improved learning spaces and we are also thankful that we are able to supply work opportunities in our community and will always look to employ local where we are able.”
State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the schools were two of 230 that would share in $10.4 million of Planned Maintenance Program funding.
“Our Planned Maintenance Program is about ensuring that every local school is well maintained and safe to provide the best possible environment for students to learn in,” he said.
