Euroa dog owners will soon be allowed to let Rover off the leash at the Euroa Showgrounds dog park.
At its recent meeting, the Strathbogie Shire Council approved the area, which has taken more than two years to come to fruition.
According to council's report it will cost about $25,000 to establish the park. Costs allocated are for fencing, gates, bins, drinking taps, maintenance and signage.
The off-leash area will open in the coming weeks.
Mayor Chris Raeburn said it was a reward for the community members that had long advocated for the area.“There are so many benefits to off-leash dog parks — both for dogs and their owners,” Cr Raeburn said.
“They provide the opportunity for dogs to exercise, socialise, training, play and just generally burn off energy.”
Council was first presented with a petition for an off-leash dog area in May 2018.
