Council was approached by the Federal Government and the action group requesting it purchase the bricks and mortar of the Impey St site and discussion between the parties has been continuing since December.
While Council would not confirm whether any sort of recommendation would be put up for adoption at the March 16 ordinary council meeting, the News understands it will be on the agenda.
The DP Jones facility has been closed since February 2020, after it went into liquidation in November 2019.
It was revealed in January the liquidator would attempt to sell the site to realise the assets of DP Jones and the neighbourhood house.
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said Council was seeking more information from the Federal Government.
“At this stage, there are further requests (for information) from the executive of City of Greater Shepparton,” he said.
“We’re providing that to them; we’re doing everything we can. We believe this will be brought up at its next meeting.”
The News understands that if council purchases the bricks and mortar of the site, an external aged care provider could run and maintain the facility.
Greater Shepparton City Council was contacted for comment.
Murchison Community Action Group president Warwick Gregory said many elderly residents were unsure what the future held as some were ready to enter aged care.
“The longer it goes on, the uncertainty that previous residents going back in (had) is probably nil now, because it has been a full 12 months since they moved out and they would’ve settled down in another facility,” he said.
“This is our last advantage to get it back to what it was.”
Mr Gregory said he had spoken to many of the nine councillors privately about the possibility of purchasing the site.
