Man fined after failing to surrender vehicle

Leaning Senior Constable Chris Cole told the court Jones had a month to surrender the vehicle but failed to do so.

Jones’ solicitor Scott Thomas said his client had a “long-standing history of drug addiction”, including using cannabis from a young age and ice from 14 years old.

Mr Thomas said Jones also had a past addiction to heroin.

“He has a significant history of non-compliance with sentences … his offending speaks for itself,” Mr Thomas said.

He said Jones was in a “fairly confused psychological state at the time” the notice was served.

Magistrate Frances Medina said she took into account an early guilty plea, but handed down the conviction to “punish the behaviour” and as deterrence.

Jones is currently remanded in custody on unrelated matters.
