Hoping to employ people of African heritage from the local communities, African House is looking to fill three full-time and four part-time positions for six months, starting January 2021.
Two of the three full-time roles are as an assistant for the existing partnerships and programs manager and a facility manager and will help re-establish SPAH programs and activities as restrictions ease further.
The other full-time position, senior community connections coordinator, and the four part-time positions, community connection workers, will be involved in conducting a detailed survey of the African communities in the Greater Shepparton region.
The senior community connections coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the survey, while the community connections workers will assist in the design, promotion and data collection of the survey and engaging the region's various African communities.
“The findings from the survey will be owned by the Greater Shepparton African communities and used to support future community development and capacity building, not just by SPAH but by other community organisations and support services,” SPAH partnerships and programs manager Kate Radevski said.
She said it was imperative the community connections workers were of African heritage and deeply connected to their communities.
“This grant is an incredible opportunity for SPAH and our community,” she said.
“It will enable African House to re-establish itself after the COVID-19 restrictions and will provide new employees with six months of on-the-job experience in community work and provide valuable opportunities to learn more about and engage with African House and the various African communities in the Goulburn Valley.”
The University of Melbourne and Harris Park Consulting are assisting with the design of the survey.
