Matchbook was released in August 1989 and stayed in the Top 10 chart for 14 weeks, selling more than 200 000 copies in the first year.
At the 1990 Aria Music Awards, Mr Moss went on to take out Album of the Year, Best Male Artist and Breakthrough Artist Single and Song of the Year which he shared with co-writer Don Walker for Tucker's Daughter.
“It's still in demand, and still selling and streaming,” he said.
Mr Moss's anniversary tour comes off the back of Cold Chisel's current tour of its new album Blood Moon which went to number one in December - 38 years after the band first hit the top spot with Swingshift in 1981.
Moss said the Blood Moon outdoor Australian summer tour had been incredible.
“It's been fantastic, just amazing. The vibe in the band is terrific, we've been really keen to make it work,” he said.
For his solo regional tour Mr Moss said audiences could expect the iconic songs from his debut 1989 album including singles Tucker's Daughter and Out of the Fire as well as a few of his classic Chisel hits such as Bow River and Hold On.
At the moment he's writing for a new solo album due for recording in September.
He said he never tries to force the creative process.
“You are what you are, and I just continue to try and be me and work hard. I try not to think about it too much,” he said.
For his regional tour he has adapted the Matchbook and Chisel sound for solo guitar and stomp box.
“There's a slight adaptation because they were all originally recorded with a full band. But of course all the great Don Walker songs began on a piano, and mine on guitar. They all start on one instrument,” he said.
After more than 40 years of recording and performing, Mr Moss said the current music industry challenge of streaming services was nothing new.
“There has always been tough times. I remember when it was tough getting on Australian radio with Australian songs. Streaming services reduce earnings, but they give, present more opportunities - especially for live music,” he said.
Ian Moss's 30th Anniversary Matchbook tour arrives at Shepparton's Eastbank Centre on Saturday, March 14.
Tickets are $64.90 and are available from riverlinksvenues.com.au or ianmoss.com.au/tour
