Students from Greater Shepparton's four government secondary schools will be better equipped for their future careers after taking part in a series of Work Readiness Programs throughout the week.

Facilitated by the Beacon Foundation, students of varying year levels have been taught valuable skills to take with them into the workforce.
Yesterday's session was held at The Connection Shepparton with a select group of Year 10 students from Shepparton High School.
Shepparton High School career practitioner Mary-Ann Linehan said students learnt a range skills on the day such improved communication and problem solving skills which are important in today's career landscape.
“It’s about getting our students ready for the world of work," Ms Linehan said.
She said the week had been supported by the Lighthouse Project who organised mentors for the week.
Shepparton High School Beacon ambassadors Maureen Simaika and Tyleasha Lyons said the mentors helped teach the students the importance of eye contact, presentation and confidence among other aspects for a job interview.
“This program today is helping us get ready for everything work related,” Tyleasha said.
“Everyone here has been really respectful and really engaged with what is going on which is great."
The students also had a chance to practice their elevator pitches, highlighting their natural abilities.
“I have learnt so much today,” Maureen said.
Beacon Foundation high impact programs lead facilitator Lani Zavelsky said the program had been well received by all students throughout the week.
Mr Zavelsky said the program is important for young people within regional settings.
“Particularly as a means of connecting local business people with school students who are looking for that first leg up into that world of work," he said.
“It can be a great chance for a positive and bright future.”
Ms Linehan said Shepparton High School had been involved with the Beacon Foundation for eleven years.
She said the programs will continue to be delivered through Greater Shepparton College (interim name) in 2020.
