Alongside fundraisers, regularly scheduled meetings and smaller events, there will be two main camps for the 1st Seymour Scouts this year, as well as an opportunity for the Joeys to attend Kangaree, which will be a smaller scale Jamboree taking place from September 26 to 28.
This year, 1st Seymour Scouts has 18 Scouts — the most they have ever had — 10 Cubs and just a few Joeys.
Joeys are aged from five to eight, Cubs are eight to 11 and Scouts are 11 to 14.
There are also Venturers, who are ages 14 to 17, while Rovers are 18 to 25.
Having been group leader for four years, Stuart Ferguson has seen the development of many of the kids in the region throughout their Scouting journeys.
“I’ve definitely seen quite a few of them start from Joeys and go up to Scouts, and you can see how much more they come out of their shells,” Mr Ferguson said.
“It’s impressive to see how much they change and develop in their confidence.
“That’s what I’ve enjoyed the most.”
Scouts is built around encouragement, which allows kids from five all the way up to 25 to flourish and grow, while learning valuable life skills and getting out into the natural world.
“I think they learn a lot about responsibility and independence and we try to do that in a safe environment,” Mr Ferguson said.
“It’s all about giving them those opportunities and experiences for them to work on their independence.”
Starting from Monday, February 10, meetings will go back to a regular schedule.
Cubs will meet from 6.20pm to 8pm on Mondays, Scouts from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesdays, Joeys on Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and finally Venturers will meet from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays.
