$1.45m for Shepparton intersection upgrade

Funding under the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program promises to improve 57 crash sites on Victorian roads in 2023-24.

This funding includes $1.45 million for the City of Greater Shepparton.

The local project is included in the $25.6 million of funding for Victoria roads under the program’s 2023-24 funding round.

The Black Spot Program funds safety measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at locations where a number of serious crashes are known to have occurred, or are at risk of occurring.

“Safety investments will make Victorian roads safer for all road users,” Federal Infrastructure and Transport Assistant Minister Carol Brown said.

The $1.45 million regional investment will fund the replacement of the cross intersection at Orrvale Rd and Poplar Ave with a new roundabout.

Construction will include splitter islands, line marking, retro-reflective pavement markers and lighting, as well as sections of roadside barrier and mountable concrete aprons.

Victoria has had 277 people die on its roads in the past 12 months, a 12.1 per cent increase from the 12 months to August 15 last year.
