Moustafa Salami, 41, pleaded guilty in the NSW District Court to concealing a serious indictable offence of another person.
Judge Gina O'Rourke on Thursday sentenced him to a three-year community correction order.
Its conditions include not to commit any offence and to being supervised by a community corrections officer for the period of the order.
Salami, who was originally charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, admitted knowing who was the masked assassin.
Mr Hawi was shot multiple times after getting into his black Mercedes outside a Fitness First gym in Rockdale in February 2018.
Ahmed Doudar pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Doudar's close friend Yusuf Guney Nazlioglu and another man, Jamal Eljaidi, were later acquitted of the murder.
Mr Nazlioglu was accused of being the balaclava-clad gunman, while Mr Eljaidi was said to be his getaway driver.
Mr Nazlioglu, a former Lone Wolf bikie, died in hospital in June after being shot in front of his wife in a car park at Rhodes in Sydney's west.
The judge who sentenced Doudar referred to agreed facts which said Mr Nazlioglu was Mr Hawi's shooter.
The facts also referred to Salami picking up and transporting on the back of his tow truck a getaway car used in Mr Hawi's execution.
