A large-scale rescue effort was launched last Wednesday after 230 of the mammals became stranded on Ocean Beach, near Macquarie Harbour.
Incident controller Nic Deka confirmed 44 survivors had been moved to deeper water during the operation.
He said preliminary data from two whales fitted with satellite trackers suggested they were "well south" of Tasmania.
"This is positive news as this indicates that many of the rescued whales have been successfully released back into the Southern Ocean," Mr Deka said on Tuesday.
All but two whale carcasses had been removed and disposed of as of Monday afternoon, with the majority towed out to sea and released in deep open water.
Tasmania's Department of Natural Resources and Environment will undertake surveillance flights to monitor whether any carcasses wash ashore.
The stranding occurred two years after Australia's worst-ever beaching in the same area.
Some 470 pilot whales were found stranded at Macquarie Harbour, with rescuers working around the clock to save 111.
Experts said the area's topography, including a beach with a gentle slope, had the potential to confuse the whales' eco-location navigation.
Mr Deka thanked department staff, salmon companies, volunteers and the local community for their efforts following the latest beaching.
Ocean Beach has re-opened to the public.
