Qld Ambulance Service probes woman's death

The death of a woman while she was reportedly left waiting for more than two hours for an ambulance in Townsville has sparked an investigation.

The Queensland Ambulance Service says it arrived at a call-out to find a woman dead at Kelso, in the southern suburbs of Townsville on Saturday.

The woman had waited more than two and a half hours for paramedics to arrive at her home, according local Burdekin MP Dale Last.

The QAS has reported the woman's death to police and launched its own internal probe.

"Firstly, the Queensland Ambulance Service thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of this person," a QAS spokesman said in a statement to AAP on Thursday.

"We can confirm that the QAS attended a case on Saturday where a female patient was declared deceased. The QAS is currently undertaking a detailed review of the case.

"Once complete, this report will be provided to the State Coroner, in keeping with long standing QAS organisational practice.

"It would be inappropriate to make any further comment."

A spokesman for Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said she would not be commenting on the case while it was being investigated.
