Richard Evan Hillyer, 62, brother of NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley, Â made a brief appearance in Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
Defence lawyer Samuel Oakley told the court Hillyer, from Swansea, would be pleading guilty to elements of the charges involving one count of possessing cannabis leaf and one count of possessing methylamphetamine, but not guilty to the three remaining charges.
Mr Oakley said Hillyer denied supplying 7.55g of methylamphetamine, possessing a separate amount of methylamphetamine and carrying $600 which was allegedly the proceeds of crime.
Hillyer disputed the amount of methylamphetamine allegedly found by police.
He was arrested after police stopped his car at Jesmond in Newcastle at about 10.30pm on February 28 and a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly found the drugs and money.
Magistrate Caleb Franklin adjourned the case to May 1 for mention and continued Hillyer's bail.
Mr Franklin ordered the prosecution provide Hillyer with the police brief of evidence against him by April 8.
Hillyer refused to comment outside court.
His sister, Ms Catley, was told about the charges by Police Commissioner Karen Webb the day after her brother's arrest.
When Ms Catley became the first woman in NSW to be appointed as minister for police and counter-terrorism after the state election in 2023, she said she had disclosed her brother's alleged drug issues to the commissioner.
