James Edward Mason Woodley, 54, did not appear in person in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday for the first mention of his charges of possessing and supplying drugs.
Woodley was returned to Queensland the day before over his alleged links to a trans-Tasman organised crime group that distributed of large quantities of high-purity drugs.
During an investigation group in 2019, police seized 766kg of MDMA powder in one of Queensland and Australia's largest drug seizures.
As part of the international operation, 200 kilos of methamphetamine was also seized by police in New Zealand.
Queensland police allege Woodley, a United Kingdom national, was linked to the importation and storage of the seized MDMA in Brisbane before his arrest in New Zealand over the methamphetamine seizure.
Woodley's solicitor told Magistrate Peter Saggers on Wednesday that her client was considering an application for legal aid.
"There is no application for bail," she said.
Mr Saggers asked if Woodley was currently serving a sentence.
"He has completed a sentence in New Zealand," Woodley's solicitor said.
Police prosecutor Jordan Theed asked for additional time before Woodley's next court appearance and Mr Saggers adjourned the matter until March 3.
Woodley was remanded in custody to next appear in court via videolink.
