Paramedics were called to Port Hedland on Friday to treat the man, aged in his 30s, who is believed to have been brought to shore by boat.
He was taken to Hedland Health Campus by ambulance under priority one conditions.
A WA Country Health Service spokesman said the man was in a stable condition but was unable to provide further information about his injuries.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service has dispatched a crew and it's believed the man will be transferred to Perth for surgery.
Fisheries officials are yet to confirm details of the incident but said they had received a report of a possible offshore shark bite incident.
St John WA said the extent of the man's injuries was yet to be confirmed.
