Man dead in Victorian light plane crash

The man's family has been contacted and police believe he was the only person aboard the aircraft.

In a release, Victoria Police said it would work with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to determine the circumstances of the crash.

The crash site was "vastly inaccessible" for ground units, so police were working with Search and Rescue Squad and Helicopter Emergency Medical Services to reach the site.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority led an extensive search between Mount Beauty and Corryong, following reports the pilot had failed to reach his destination on Sunday.
