Adam Jayson Bird and Keera Power faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday for a committal hearing, each charged with murdering Daytona James Paul, 23, and Aaron Davis, 37, at Caboolture north of the city on April 17, 2021.
The pair are also facing charges for drug possession and trafficking while Bird faces a charge of unlawful possession of ammunition and a shortened firearm.
During the hearing's second day on Friday, forensic pathologist Dr Jessica Vidler testified about her post-mortem examination of Mr Paul.
Dr Viddler told crown prosecutor Dani Giorgio that Mr Paul had a gunshot wound that entered his chest and exited his back and that she could not determine the calibre of the bullet involved.
"Although I identified a small amount of soot within the wound itself, there was clothing present and that limits my ability to make a complete assessment of range ... there is a potential it was close or contact," Dr Viddler said.
In response to a question from Magistrate Peter Saggers, Dr Viddler clarified that a contact range gunshot wound involved the muzzle of a firearm's barrel being pressed against a person while a bullet is fired into their body.
Under cross-examination by Bird's barrister Kerry Copley, Dr Viddler said she did not have the expertise to determine that the presence of holes in Mr Paul's clothing with diameters of eight millimetres suggested that he had been shot with a nine millimetre calibre bullet.
Dr Viddler told Power's barrister, Jakub Lodziak, that Mr Paul had a borderline below toxic or potentially toxic level of methamphetamine in his bloodstream when he died.
The committal hearing, which will determine whether there is grounds for Bird and Power to stand trial, is due to conclude on Tuesday next week.
After Friday's hearing was adjourned Bird and Power waved to their family members and supporters in the public gallery before being taken back into custody.
