In 1969, a young man in northern Tasmania made the decision to turn his highly productive Angus herd into Murray Greys.

The inspiration for this change was his realisation that these cattle performed better on grass, were quieter than other breeds and produced superior carcases.
Having observed the success of the breed in carcase and hoof competitions, the decision was easy.
Now some 55 years later, the Woodbourn herd continues to grow in popularity, year on year.
Woodbourn Murray Greys are sold to all states and over the years to New Zealand, plus a large consignment to the United Kingdom.
Locally, Woodbourn delivers sale cattle free of charge to Melbourne, with assistance with road freight to all areas as well.
As an example of how Woodbourn operates, an order was received recently on a Saturday night, the bull was semen tested and freighted to Queensland within the week.
The consistency of quality and numbers make the Woodbourn sale a ‘go to event’.
Held in March each year at Cressy, 30 minutes from Launceston airport, this sale is a must for cattle men looking for quality, easy doing cattle off grass (no grain).
Breedplan is a major consideration in the selection of sires and replacements, and the 40 Woodbourn sale bulls have enviable Breedplan. Thirty females are also on offer.
The Woodbourn sale will be held at 12.30pm on Monday, March 24, and interfaced with AuctionsPlus.
