It’s no ordinary day, it’s Hero for HeartKids Day, and GV Vets participated in the dress-up event for the seventh year.
On Friday, June 14, anyone who walked through the doors was not only greeted by heroes and characters alike, but also Winston, an eight-year-old golden retriever in a cape.

Veterinary nurse Katherine Byrne has a personal connection to the day and is happy the clinic continues to show its support.
“We lost our firstborn, Elijah, in 2018 due to a heart condition and HeartKids supported us through that,” she said.
“It’s nice to give back in his honour and we (the clinic) will continue to participate each year.”

To support the organisation, all money the clinic receives from nail trims will be donated.
“We haven’t calculated this year’s total yet, as we donate the money from all nail trims in the month of June,” Ms Byrne said.
“In the first six years we have raised a total of $16,568.”
HeartKids is a non-for-profit organisation that supports families and children with heart diseases and conditions.
