Rochester A & P Association Inc. secretary Maxine Weigand wants to make the Rochester Agriculture Show all about bringing the country to the city, or in Rochester’s case, the town.
“Even growing up in a small country town, the town kids may know nothing about what goes on on a farm and I want to promote that going forward,” Maxine said.
“On Saturday, there is kids’ entertainment to keep them occupied, but we also have things like working dogs, so people can see these fantastic dogs rounding up sheep and how they work.
“We hope to have a Clydesdale with a cart that will ride around to connect all the areas.
“We have food vendors, one in particular being gelati, from a dairy farm and the farmers who actually make it.
“It is a real from the cow-to-the-plate kind of scenario.”
The Rochester Agriculture Show starts on Friday, February 21, 2025, with an evening carnival from 5pm to 9pm.
The Rochester Recreation Reserve will come alive with entertainment, live music, food, drinks, mechanical bull riding, maybe the dunk tank and the 9pm fireworks extravaganza.
To start bringing the animals to the show a day earlier, there will be a ‘beef spectacular’ on Friday night.
Then, on Saturday, February 22 it will be all about the animals from 9am to 3pm, with free entry for the day.
On Saturday, there will also be all the traditional show items you would expect, including show bags, rides, fairy floss and children’s entertainment.
Saturday will heavily feature animals with a dog show, working dogs, horses, both dairy and beef cattle, goats and chickens.
The craft pavilion will run a full schedule of categories, including food, arts and crafts.
