In the heart of the Port of Echuca heritage district is the The Port Ice Creamery which is just as popular with the locals as it is with visitors.
With over 40 flavours to choose from, here in the What’s On office, we went sampled as many flavours as possible to pick out the favourites.
The top pick was liquorice.
One of the most popular flavours, people travel from many kilometres away, making repeat visits to the Port Ice Creamery for their liquorice ice-cream fix.
Authentic liquorice flavour not only tastes wonderful, but it’s an ice-cream that may have health benefits, helping with digestive problems, menopausal symptoms and fighting off infections.
Rainbow is the most popular ice-cream at the Port Ice Creamery, especially with the younger ice-cream lovers.
We have a better recommendation: Skittle sorbet, a swirl-together mix of green apple and orange sorbet.
The two flavours together give you the Skittles taste, with the freshness of a fruit sorbet without the jaw-jarring hard outer shell and chewy centre.
For something a bit different, being old and new at the same time, you can’t go past the Anzac biscuit ice-cream.
An Anzac biscuit's chewiness and golden taste comes through in an ice-cream, with a hint of toasted coconut for a new traditional dessert flavour.
With over 40 flavours, something chocolate must be in the What’s On team pick, and we went for chocolate sorbet, which is a slightly healthier choice for those in the team who are cutting back on dairy and eggs.
Lastly, our fruit choices have been a bit thin, so we must finish with raspberry and … white chocolate.
A white chocolate ice-cream with a river of smooth raspberry sauce running through it, makes it one of the most popular ice-cream flavours at the Port Ice Creamery.
