For 10 years, the carp catch event was held at Strathallan Hall, but due to flooding, the hall is set to be demolished.
Strathallan Family Landcare member Veronica Groat said due to the 2022 flood, the event was relocated to Rochester, near the bridge that takes you to Kyabram.
On the morning of the Campaspe carp catch, Veronica contacted Macca at the ABC to spread the word.
Later, while picking up supplies at IGA in Rochester, she received a call informing her that people were already gathering by the river, hours before the event was scheduled to start.
By 10am, a crowd of about 300 people had formed, making it the largest turnout ever.
Although only 250 officially signed up, many attendees were families with grandparents and children.
Veronica said the event wonderful.
At the 2023 catch, 261 carp were removed from the Campaspe River between Kyneton and Echuca.
October is the ideal time for the catch since female carp are full of eggs.
Veronica said removing carp during this period prevents thousands of potential new fish from entering the system.
The event features three categories: under-10, under-16 and open, supported by Tackle World and VRFish.
The next Campaspe carp catch is on Sunday, October 20 at the Rochester River Reserve, Rochester. Registration starts at 11am, with fishing from noon to 3:30pm.
