Shepparton BMX Club’s come and try day

Shepparton BMX Club, in conjunction with Greater Shepparton City Council and Ride Nation, is hosting a come and try day for riders of all ages at the club on Packham St, Shepparton. Come along and learn the basics of BMX at the Shepparton track.
The event is open to riders of all ages, with no prior experience required. There will be coaches, officials and volunteers on hand to guide you. There will also be pro riders giving demonstration laps and answering questions from the community.
There are three sessions available: 9am to 9.30am, mini wheelers come and try balance bike session, suitable for children aged two to six, accompanied by a parent/carer; 10am to 11.30am, BMX come and try session suitable for children aged six to 12; and noon to 1.30pm, BMX come and try session suitable for anyone over 13.
Orienteering
Use a map to plot your course of navigation for your adventure in the Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve. The adventure starts at 10am at the reserve on Smith St.
Merrigum Historical Museum
Discover Merrigum’s rich history and the way of life from years gone by at the Merrigum Historical Museum. The museum at 111-113 Waverley Ave, Merrigum, is open from 10am to 3pm.
Orchid festival
Orchids of all sizes and colours and to suit a range of conditions will be for sale at the GV Orchid Club’s annual autumn festival at Kialla on Saturday and Sunday. The festival is on at the Kialla Paceway, 7580 Melbourne Rd. Gates are open from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday. Entry is $5. Lotj Patj Natjan Danak sculpture walk
Join us for the opening and celebrations at the stunning new sculpture walk featuring the works of 15 Yorta Yorta artists. There will be a Welcome to Country, tour of the sculpture walk, live music and free barbecue with bush tucker twist. Head along and enjoy the new walk at Winton Wetlands, 652 Lake Mokoan Rd, Chesney Vale, from 11am to 2pm.
Shepparton Bird Expo
The Shepparton Bird Exhibition and Sale is an annual event that offers people the chance to sell, trade and purchase avian species from a zebra finch to a macaw, and all the paraphernalia to fulfil their needs. The show is open from 9am to 2pm at the multi-purpose pavilion at Shepparton Showgrounds, with the sale of birds starting at 11am.
Riverlinks presents ANPA Playing for Pleasure
Each year, on a Sunday afternoon, local music enthusiasts come together to perform on Shepparton’s Eastbank stage. Playing for Pleasure gives local pianists the opportunity to play great classical works on the Steinway piano. Artists include students, teachers, professional academics and anyone who plays piano, with a minimum standard of AMEB fifth grade. It provides the municipality with wonderful live music, all for the cost of a gold coin donation.
Women-only swimming
This Girl Can – Victoria is all about empowering women across the state to get active and overcome feelings of judgment. Enjoy a swim in Aquamoves’ indoor 25m, leisure and hydrotherapy pools or relax in the sauna and spas in the company of other women. Sessions are held on the first and third Sunday of each month, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
Mindful hike
Join Start Outdoors and Paulette Simpson Kinesiology for an adult-focused session with guided hike and mediation at the Australian Botanic Gardens, Kialla Tip Rd, at 10am.
Yarrawonga community market
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Rotary Club will hold a community market on Sunday at Yarrawonga showgrounds, Gilmore St, Yarrawonga, from 8am. The community market is an opportunity for vendors to sell their wares and for residents and visitors to pick up a bargain or just have an enjoyable day out. More than 100 stall holders are expected. and don’t forget the Rotary barbecue, with funds raised going to the club’s community service and charity projects.

Lizzie’s Legacy exhibition
Murchison and District Historical Society is hosting a special exhibition of paintings and ceramics created by Liz Ewart, called Lizzie’s Legacy. The exhibition is open every day from 10am to 3pm until Sunday, May 22. Entry is $5 for adults, which includes refreshments. Activities will be available for children, and historic displays that are in place in other parts of the gallery will still be open. Come along to the Heritage Centre, situated in the Riverbank Gardens at 4 Stevenson St, Murchison, and enjoy a rare opportunity to admire this unique collection and be delighted by the special style and flair that Liz produced.
Party for the parks
Aneesh Jolly is holding a neighbourhood gathering on Sunday, May 15, from 2pm to 4pm at Cantebury Park on Canterbury Ave (in The Boulevard Estate) to highlight the need for park and playground facilities. Everyone from the area is welcome; there will be ice cream and games.
Echuca Country Music Club
Enjoy an afternoon of music with Echuca Country Music Club on Sunday, May 15, at the Tongala public hall, from noon to 5pm. Enjoy the entertainment of guest artist Jimmy Davidson and our wonderful band. Walk-up artists welcome. Admission: members $9, non-members $10. Alcohol is not permitted at the venue. BYO all non-alcoholic drinks, food and nibbles. Door prize, nifty-fifty and normal raffles. Tea and coffee available: gold coin donation. Shepparton Croquet Club

Bowel scan kits
Bowel scan kits will not be available this year during May from the Tatura Pharmacy. The good news is they will be available from the Rotary website, www.rotarybowelscan.com. With more and more people using the web these days this will not present a problem. Early detection is vital for a successful outcome from this disease and we encourage people to avail themselves of this service. The price of kits is $22 including postage. Tatura Rotary Club would like to thank the Tatura and Murchison pharmacies for supporting Rotary in this initiative for many years.
Calling all bagpipers
The members of the Goulburn Valley Pipes and Drums desperately need experienced pipers and drummers to join the band. Members would also welcome persons wishing to learn to play the bagpipes or side, tenor or bass drum. Members practise on Thursday from 7pm in the hall at The Hub, Morrell St, Mooroopna. A friendly social group meets every second Tuesday of each month at 6pm at Casablanca Restaurant, 125 High St, Shepparton, for a meal and to discuss the coming months’ itinerary for day and evening outings.
