He is returning to the Echuca Workers Club to tell us about it, highlighting one unsolved case that has stuck with him: the Melbourne gangland murder of Alphonse Gangitano and why it will always go unsolved.
“This night is about the underworld murder of Alphonse Gangitano and the difficulties we had in trying to solve that, within the rules and regulations we had to play with,” Mr Bezzina said.
“Unfortunately, even knowing the offenders, it remains unsolved today and will never be solved.”
The speculation, which was dramatised in the Underbelly television series, is that both the offenders are dead.
Mr Bezzina will dive deep into how his hands were tied carrying out the investigation.
“Even though I know who the offenders are, playing by the rules, I just couldn’t get over that bar when they were alive to be able to charge them,” Mr Bezzina said.
“It will never be solved because the solved case is when someone is convicted, not when someone is charged.”
Homicide Untold with Charlie Bezzina goes into the case’s uniqueness, from the perspective of the actual investigator and the frustrations he went through trying to solve the case.
Mr Bezzina will walk you through the steps of his cases, the things you would not have seen in the media.
“It is not as easy as the one-hour TV shows,” he said.
“Where you fictionalise who actually did the murders and you solve it in one hour, and that’s not the case at all.”
Homicide Untold with Charlie Bezzina, Chapter 2 of Charlie’s Amazing Story — Alphonse Gangitano will be at the Echuca Workers Club on Saturday, March 1.
