Stella was ready to make a difference in her school, just like the school captains before her.
“Being part of the community for so long (I’ve had a lot of) people to look up to, and they’ve made such a big difference in my schooling,” she said.
“Since I’ve been here in grade five, I’ve seen different things they’ve implemented just to make the school community a better place for everyone, and I just want to be a part of that and have the opportunity to help the younger students that are coming through the school.”
As a captain, Stella plans to bring the whole school community together.
“The main thing Josh and I have spoken about is inclusivity and integrating our year levels a bit more,” she said.
“We really want to help integrate everyone a bit more and just make it a whole school community, rather than just year levels.”
For her final year of high school, Stella is studying English, general maths, legal studies, accounting and psychology, after she fast-tracked health and human development last year.
While Stella says she’s still unsure about what she plans to do next year, occupational therapy is a leading option.
Outside school, you can find her on the netball courts, where she plays for Kyabram.
Josh Winkler was excited to learn he would be Grammar’s school captain.

Josh was shocked to hear he had received the top leadership position in the school.
“When you apply for a (leadership) position at Grammar, you don’t actually apply for school captain, you just list your preferences,” he said.
“But to be honest, I never thought I was going to be school captain. I always thought it’d be really exciting and a great opportunity to give back to the school community.
“I came here in Year 8, and I felt really included from the get-go, so being school captain represents for me an opportunity to provide cohesion for students at the school.”
As school captain, Josh and Stella have shared goals.
“We’ve got a combined interest to breed some cohesion between the year levels,” he said.
“There’s an opportunity to nurture awareness of each other more than we had in the past and add to the culture which we’ve experienced.
“There’s been initiatives through the years, like the Pelican Migrations, where the Year 12s go over to other year levels, and they go talk to them, so that’s something we’re really keen to continue this year.
“We really just are keen to encourage a stronger bond across the school.”
For Year 12, Josh is studying legal studies, politics, general maths, English and accounting, and fast-tracked history revolutions last year.
Next year, he plans to study law, but hasn’t settled on where he would like to go.
Outside classes, Josh spends his time playing football for Shepparton United.
