This isn’t the first year Gracielle has been a leader within Notre Dame.
“I had a previous leadership role last year as a cultural diversity leader, and I feel like that exposed me to the leadership team and really helped me gauge a sense of being a captain,” she said.
“I love working with people and working with the leadership team and making everyone feel included.”
As a school captain, Gracielle is following in former leaders’ footsteps to help create a welcoming environment.
“I was inspired by the captains from last year and how they made students feel, so I wanted to be the same as them,” she said.
“(I want to) foster inclusivity because I feel like in high school there are cliques, like there are different groups that people are in, and I feel like I want to be that welcoming spirit for everyone, and make school enjoyable for all students.”
This year, Gracielle is studying business management, health and human development, advanced English, general maths, art and religious education.
Once Year 12 is finished, she plans to take a gap year before pursuing higher education.
Outside the classroom, Gracielle is passionate about fitness and going to the gym.

Last year, Will was also a leader at the school.
“I was the social justice leader, and we got to work with the school captains last year, and help create that community in the school,” he said.
“I’ve always looked up to past leaders, and they’ve helped me come out of my shell and want to become a captain.
“I want to foster inclusivity, teamwork and collaboration, which we need in school.”
As captain, Will is already thinking of what he can do to improve the school
“I want to make sure everyone knows they belong at school,” he said.
“I want people to know they can come up to me and feel welcomed and wanted in the community.”
For his Year 12, Will is studying maths methods, biology, chemistry and advanced English, after fast-tracking general maths and psychology in Year 11.
Next year, he’s planning to study medicine at Monash University.
Outside school, Will is a keen runner and likes to read.
