At GOTAFE’s Fryers St campus, in-person and online study opportunities will be showcased at this year’s Shepparton Open Day, held on Saturday, August 24, by both GOTAFE and La Trobe University.
School leavers and individuals looking to shift careers, enhance their skill set or return to the workforce can explore the subject areas that pique their interest.
Hands-on workshops will complement the academic information.
Goulburn Valley Football Netball League representatives will be in attendance, hosting a marquee and handball competition.
For GOTAFE executive director of student experience Laura Baker, the day blends excitement and information.
“Attending an open day is a commitment-free yet vital step in finding your passion,” she said.
“Partnering with La Trobe for the open day means prospective students will have an opportunity to find the study pathways that suit them.”
La Trobe Shepparton head of campus Elizabeth Capp echoed these thoughts, encouraging individuals to engage directly with current students and educators from both institutions.
“Open days are a great opportunity for people considering further study to explore subject areas and career paths, talk to career advisers and make decisions about their future,” she said.
Students can take advantage of the Aspire Early Entry Program, applying on-site and potentially winning La Trobe merchandise.
The university is amid a multimillion-dollar upgrade, expanding enrolment capacity in vital regional skill gap areas such as nursing, teaching and business.
Stage one of the renovation will deliver expanded high-tech facilities, modern study areas, space for industry and research partners, and a versatile community events space.
“This investment will ensure La Trobe is prepared to address the future education, training and employment needs of the Shepparton community,” Ms Capp said.
At the Shepparton Open Day, prospective nursing students can tour the construction of the new state-of-the-art nursing labs and the temporary hub, which includes clinical simulation learning experiences — a permanent feature of future courses.
Shepparton Open Day is on Saturday, August 24, from 10am to 2pm at the GOTAFE Fryers St campus, 152-200 Fryers St, Shepparton.
