The club made the call to pull the pin in the interests of all players, with both senior and Auskick programs suspended for the year.
Long-time coach Mark McGann said it was an incredibly difficult decision to make.
“It wasn't easy,” he said.
“As a committee, however, we thought it was too big of a risk. Our playing group is more vulnerable than the average football side, and with the AFL not allowing Auskick at this stage, it was a call we had to make.
“We feel for our players, especially the senior group who are now seeing the AFL come back and are desperate to get out and go for a kick.”
The news has caused disappointment not only within the ranks of the Rockets, but with the wider community as well.
McGann said it was a testament to the way Echuca-Moama viewed their club.
“It shows where the club sits within the community,” he said.
“It was going to be a big year for the club and for the twin towns. We were due for the One-and-All inclusion day, which is a huge thing on the calendar, and unfortunately it looks as though it won't be able to go ahead.”
But all hope is not lost, with the club hoping to organise an event later in the year.
“We are not 100 per cent on what we want to do, be it a version of the inclusion day or something else,” McGann said.
“We have to sit back for a while and figure out what protocols will be in place, but we really want to do something for our players to keep them involved and building towards 2021.”
